Are you ready for a challenge?

Do you have the courage to break the rules of patriarchy every day?

What if you were given the secret to ecstatic existence, would you embrace it?

The day after I wrote last week’s Wisdom Wednesday newsletter, I was guided to commit to a daily personal tantra practice for one full year and to keep a tantra journal as well. Last week, I wrote about flexibility and spontaneity in relation to spiritual practice, and this week I am writing about adopting a committed spiritual practice for an extended period of time. It may seem paradoxical and, yet, it is not necessarily so. I am being guided to be flexible and spontaneous in relation to a committed daily practice.

I am inviting you to join me on an adventure in sexuality and spirituality.

I understand if a daily practice seems daunting. What feels right to you? Once a week? Twice a week? Or maybe you just aren’t ready for any commitment in this area right now though you are willing to experiment here and there. Please join me in whatever way feels good to you. Remember a personal tantra practice is about self-loving.

What can you expect?

You will raise your vibratory rate. You will open your heart-center more fully. You will become more intimate with yourself. You will develop a greater sense of personal agency. You will be more self-exciting, more self-reliant and more radiant. You will be more creative and more magnetic. You will experience ecstatic union with your Divine Self - your Soul. You will awaken, energize and restore the Goddess within.

  1. Explore what comes up for you at the thought of personal tantra and/or a committed practice.

  2. Notice any resistance you may have. Can you name it?

  3. What opportunity do you perceive in embracing tantra? What would you hope to gain?

  4. Where do you feel inspired in relation to a tantra practice? What is the source of this inspiration?

More than likely, once you make the decision to participate in this adventure, you will encounter new levels of guilt and shame about your sexuality. Don’t let it stop you, acknowledge it and continue on.

On day three of my practice, some fear surfaced. When I examined the source of the fear. I  recalled an experience I had in grade four. The parish priest came into our class to talk to us about sex. He told us that if we masturbated, we would go to hell. A dark silence fell upon the class. I remember little Steven who sat near me absolutely freezing. I was terrified. I didn’t know what masturbating was. Was I sinning without knowing it? Would I go to hell?

I don’t recall starting to masturbate until I was older - late teens or early 20s. I do recall the guilt and shame I carried in relation to masterbating, which I have worked to heal throughout the years.

Clearly another level of fear in relation to masturbating remained beneath the surface and it had been triggered by my commitment to a daily tantra practice. Personal tantra is meant to support our healing by both bringing up what is there to be healed and clearing it.

The priest had consciously shrouded our sexuality in guilt and shame. I believe that healed, whole sexuality correlates with personal agency and freedom. Women who suppress their sexuality (often because of religious experiences akin to my own) are much more easily controlled. Women who stay connected to their sexuality, on the other hand, are hard to control because through their sexuality they have both a sense of aliveness and a connection to their core selves. Knowingly or unknowingly, they are accessing their inherent divinity.

Patriarchy and organized religion go hand-in-hand. We all carry a great wound from our religious experiences in this and past lives. This wound of guilt and shame in relation to our sexuality effects every area of our lives as women.

Self-pleasuring is a process of undoing the past - a process of redeeming our sexuality.

This week, I am going to gift you with the whole sacred incantation for our flower essence Redemption. I love that the flower essence Redemption is made from Rose ‘Mary Magdalene’. Now, widely believed to be the spiritual partner of Jesus and the mother of his daughter, Mary Magdalene has been vilified as a prostitute by the catholic church . She is being redeemed through the emergence of the truth. It is time for us to redeem ourselves, our history and our stories as women by sanctifying our sexuality and stepping into our truths.

Redemption - Rose "Mary Magdalene' "I AM empowering my self-pleasuring as a sacred ceremony for healing my womanhood. I AM cleansing myself with the sacred waters of redemption and anointing myself with the blessings of purification. I AM using the tender touch of my own hand to heal the violations of the past. I AM feeling what emerges through self-loving and honoring the ebb and flow of the currents of my heart center. I AM letting go of expectations, fantasies and goal orientation in my self-pleasuring and learning to be content with myself as I am in the moment. I AM activating the oceanic wave of orgasmic release and washing away sexual guilt and shame from the shores of my Soul. I AM sanctifying my vagina as a holy vessel for the Goddess and honoring my vagina as an altar for my Soul."
